A ARNYS PARIS Forestière jacket, circa early 2000s.
A truly exceptional arrival.
We have long sought this piece, and at last it has come to us—the storied maison ARNYS PARIS, now only a memory in the annals of fashion.
The Forestière stands as the signature model of ARNYS, and for its distinctive design sensibility, there are many today who search for it with unwavering dedication.
Once described as "ARNYS of the Left Bank, Hermès of the Right," it was the defining maison of the Seine's Left Bank.
While the Right Bank carried the weight of aristocratic conservatism, the Left Bank embodied a democratic spirit—innovative, artistic, and uncompromising.
ARNYS has long since vanished, its distributorship changed hands, absorbed into larger entities.
The trademark itself was sold to Berluti years ago, and the maison exists no longer as a living concern.
That ARNYS stood beside Hermès speaks to its tailoring—every piece, without exception, a first-rate object.
The house's commitment to manufacturing was so rigorous that different items were produced in different ateliers. The quality is undeniable.
What we present now is the celebrated Forestière
sometimes called the "Keeper of the Forest" jacket.
It remains the most sought-after model in the ARNYS canon.
This Forestière carries a particular provenance: the great modernist architect and theorist of the twentieth century,Le Corbusier (Charles-Édouard Jeanneret) commissioned it from the founding patron of ARNYS}.
While teaching at the Sorbonne, he requested "a jacket that allows the arm to rise with ease when writing on a blackboard."
The inspiration came from the hunting jacket—the gamekeeper's coat,
designed for freedom of movement.
The armhole is cut generously to permit ease of gesture. Casual in temperament, yet undeniably elegant—there is a refinement woven through it.
It possesses something of the approachability of French workwear, the ease of a coverall.
The Forestière is constructed entirely of wool.
The base is brown, but multiple hues thread through the weave, creating a depth of color.
Accents of green appear throughout; the lining of the sleeves is a warm yellow. It reads as a work of art—something only ARNYS could conceive.
It is beautiful. There is no other word for it.
All buttons are original to ARNYS, naturally.
Each is finely carved, with a brown rim. The buttons alone possess considerable value.
Marked size 50
ARNYS pieces of size 50 and above circulate more commonly. This piece will wear with ease, sitting generously on the frame.
A larger frame would find it fitted; a smaller one would wear it with deliberate ease, as intended.
Period catalogues show the jacket worn with dropped shoulders and rolled sleeves—this was the intention from the beginning.
It presents in pristine condition—no visible soiling, no notable wear.
No insect damage to the wool.
There are no defects that would prevent full wear and use. It remains a ready garment.
This is not the kind of object one simply purchases with money. We cannot promise another will surface.
As a piece of daily wardrobe, as a collectible, as a reference for design—it possesses value on every level.
ARNYS PARIS appears rarely in the vintage market, regardless of model.
Tailored jackets surface occasionally, but a casual, wearable piece of this caliber—it is nearly unheard of.
The Forestière, particularly, exists in a category of its own.
It is not an overstatement to say Le Corbusier created this jacket.
For those devoted to architecture, to design, this is essential.
Scarcity will only increase. If you have sought this piece, we would urge you not to let this moment pass.
