Circa 1950s, a Swedish Army motorcycle jacket.
A truly exceptional arrival.
Swedish Army motorcycle jackets are predominantly encountered in green, yet this example presents itself in a rare black. An original colorway, not a later redye.
While redyed black variants circulate in the market today, original black pieces are virtually nonexistent.
According to dealers, from the 1960s onward the green became the standard issue, widely worn. But in the preceding decades—the 1940s and early 1950s—black appears to have seen selective service.
Originally, the exterior employs a dense, wind-resistant cotton canvas, with long-pile wool lining the interior for superior insulation. This jacket's lining has been removed.
A chin strap remains at the collar, permitting the traditional upright wear.
The cut runs generous; those of larger build will find it accommodating.
The overall condition bears visible use and wear—suited for those who prefer to wear their jackets rather than preserve them in stasis. The absence of the wool lining compromises thermal properties, though it remains serviceable for standard wear.
Pieces of this provenance seldom surface. As a collector's item or a design reference, it merits consideration.
For those seeking such a jacket, the opportunity awaits.
