A 1967 U.S. Army Jungle Fatigue Jacket.
A piece that requires little introduction. Sampled by countless brands, it has transcended vintage territory to become the standard among standards in contemporary menswear.
Adopted during the Vietnam War era, the jungle fatigue jacket was purpose-built as tropical combat field wear for hot, humid environments.
This example represents the "3rd model"—a non-ripstop iteration constructed entirely in cotton poplin.
The vintage market today is predominantly populated by 4th model and later examples, which employ ripstop fabric blends.
The 1st and 2nd models feature epaulettes and exposed buttons, lending them a more pronounced military character. From the 3rd model onward, these elements were eliminated, rendering the jacket far more compatible with contemporary civilian wear and urban application.
Beyond the 4th model, cotton-nylon blended fabrics became standard. For those who hold to 100% cotton construction, the 3rd model represents the logical threshold.
Scarcity notwithstanding, cotton poplin offers a refined hand-feel, remains seasonally versatile, and wears exceptionally well over time.
Its austere design affords remarkable versatility. In recent years, even those inclined toward tailored dress have found occasion to pair it thoughtfully—the possibilities extend in multiple directions.
The garment runs oversized in cut. Those of larger frame will find no constraint in wear, and the piece works equally well draped loosely in casual silhouette.
While many examples encountered have lost their labels entirely, this specimen retains its original tag intact. Visible soiling and damage remain minimal—a notably clean example.
3rd model jungle fatigue jackets are encountered rarely. Should you seek one, this opportunity warrants consideration.
