Circa 1990s, Renoma Paris black leather detachable sleeve multi-pocket jacket.
A truly exceptional piece.
Renoma Paris is a French fashion house.
Maurice Renoma, one of its founders, opened the first boutique in the 16th arrondissement of Paris in 1963 alongside his brother Michel.
The boutique, distinguished by its white facade, became known as the "WHITE HOUSE." The concept of stocking pieces for oneself and wearing them out—what we might call real clothes—struck a chord and gained considerable popularity.
Genuine maison prêt-à-porter was a novel concept at the time, and it earned widespread acclaim.
From Parisian students to figures at the highest echelons of fashion, the brand drew admirers. Artists particularly sensitive to their own expression—musicians, film directors, and the like—became devoted to Renoma, wearing the house with conviction.
From this storied house comes a black leather jacket with detachable sleeves and multiple pockets.
The defining characteristic of this piece is, without question, its black leather construction.
We have encountered numerous vintage Renoma pieces over the years, and nearly all have been fashioned from cotton or cotton-blend fabrics.
A piece in leather is something we have not seen before, making this quite rare indeed.
As for other details, they align with examples we have stocked.
Asymmetrical flap pockets grace the chest; two zippered slash pockets sit at the torso; and four smaller flap pockets—two on each side—anchor the hem. A true multi-pocket configuration, the sort that appeals to those who understand utility and design working in concert.
Such detailing speaks to a sensibility many seek out—functional poetry, if you will.
The front closure employs a double-layer construction: a zipper beneath a snap-button fly, combining both aesthetic refinement and practical function.
The zipper slider bears the mark of riri, the Swiss manufacturer.
The sleeves detach via zipper, allowing the jacket to function as a vest as well. A two-way proposition.
The ability to shift between configurations according to mood and circumstance is, we think, rather appealing.
Worn with an ease and lack of pretension, this piece reveals its full character.
We find it particularly well-suited to refined, more formal styling—a tied look, for instance.
Labeled size M.
The actual measurements suggest a golden size for the Japanese frame, accommodating a range of builds with equal ease.
It suits both a true fit and an oversized silhouette.
There is surface wear—light soiling and scuffing consistent with wear—but no damage that compromises function. Still plenty of life ahead.
Renoma Paris, one of France's defining fashion houses.
This is the sort of piece—with its particular character and construction—you encounter only in vintage Renoma. The current line does not offer its equal.
Transcending trend, adapting equally to casual or formal dress, this is a jacket of genuine versatility.
It cannot simply be purchased. We cannot guarantee its return.
Worthy as a wardrobe essential, as a collecting piece, or as a design reference. Multi-pocket pieces from this house appear infrequently in our inventory. Should you have been seeking such a thing, we would suggest not letting this moment pass.
