Estimated late 19th century. An Indigo Linen Fireman Bourgeron jacket.
A truly exceptional arrival.
Many seek pieces made from generous amounts of indigo linen.
While indigo linen smocks remain relatively common, jacket iterations are considerably scarcer. Even in Europe, they have become difficult to locate.
The piece we present here stands apart as particularly irregular. Having examined countless examples, this was our first encounter with this variant. It merges details reminiscent of French military Bourgeron jackets with distinctive fireman embellishments—a convergence of exceptional specificity.
The fabric possesses indigo linen's singular character: a subtle, undulating drape without parallel.
While many examples of this type tend toward smaller proportions, this piece occupies a golden proportional range well-suited to Japanese frames, accommodating a diverse range of builds.
Light patination exists throughout, yet the overall condition remains remarkably refined given its age.
This is not an item that money alone can procure. Future acquisitions cannot be assured.
An exceptionally scarce offering. If this speaks to you, we would encourage consideration at this moment.
