A Forestière Jacket by ARNYS PARIS, estimated to be from the early 2000s.
An exceptionally rare acquisition.
We have long sought this piece, and have finally secured it—ARNYS PARIS, the legendary maison that no longer exists.
The Forestière Jacket stands as ARNYS's signature model, and with its distinctive design rarely seen elsewhere, many continue to seek it out.
Once described as "ARNYS on the Left Bank, Hermès on the Right," it was the defining brand of the Seine's Left Bank.
Where the Right Bank embodied aristocratic conservatism, the Left Bank embraced popular, innovative, and artistic sensibilities.
ARNYS eventually disappeared through changing distributorships and acquisitions.
Years ago, even its trademark was sold to Berluti, leaving the brand itself without substance.
Given its standing alongside Hermès in its era, every piece reflects first-rate tailoring.
The brand's commitment to craftsmanship was so exacting—rotating through different factories depending on the item—that the quality remains unmistakable.
The piece we present here is the celebrated Forestière.
Also known as the "Guardian of the Forest Jacket."
It remains ARNYS's most coveted model, sought after by many.
This Forestière was born from a commission: the visionary modernist architect Le Corbusier (Charles-Édouard Jeanneret) requested it from ARNYS's founder.
While teaching at the Sorbonne, he sought "a jacket that allows the arm to rise easily when writing on a blackboard."
The inspiration derived from the gamekeeper's jacket—
the hunting jacket.
With generously cut armholes designed for freedom of movement, it carries a casual air, yet possesses an unmistakable elegance and refinement.
It shares the ease of wear found in French vintage workwear.
The present example is crafted entirely from cashmere—a Forestière in 100% cashmere.
Such a material is exceptionally scarce, and paired with the most versatile black.
One might argue this represents the finest iteration possible.
Built on the most versatile black base, the lining of the sleeves reveals a deep plum tone—a distinctly ARNYS gesture, an artistic statement only this house could articulate.
The predominant black conveys restraint and timelessness, appearing understated, yet the moment one rolls back the sleeve to glimpse the hidden plum reveals the ARNYS sensibility.
Neither excessive nor austere, the proportions strike an ideal balance.
ARNYS's distinctive color palette is said to have been inspired by Japanese kimono tradition, the designer Jankel Granville's wife being Japanese.
Beautiful. The word suffices.
All buttons remain original ARNYS pieces—
finely detailed buttons with dark borders. This alone carries considerable worth.
Tagged as size 48.
While most Forestière pieces in the market appear in size 50 and above, this example in this proportion is nearly impossible to encounter.
Truly rare.
For those of Japanese build, this represents an ideal size.
Archive imagery shows the jacket worn with dropped shoulders and generous drape, making it entirely wearable even for smaller frames.
The fabric exhibits minimal surface wear; otherwise, no significant damage compromises wear.
This is not a commodity available to those with sufficient funds. Reacquisition remains uncertain.
As wardrobe addition or as a collection piece—indeed, as a design source—it carries undeniable value.
ARNYS PARIS appears rarely in the vintage market, across any era or model. While tailored jackets surface occasionally, casual, town-appropriate pieces such as this are virtually nonexistent.
The Forestière is rarer still.
A jacket born through Le Corbusier's vision. For those devoted to architecture, acquiring this piece is essential.
The brand has recently garnered renewed attention through magazine features. With the house no longer in existence, appreciation is certain to intensify. Those seeking one would be wise to act without delay.
