A 1957-issued Czechoslovak People's Air Force flight jacket.
A special acquisition.
Today divided into the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic as separate nations, Czechoslovakia existed as the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic from 1918 to 1992—or as the Czechoslovak Republic from 1918 to 1960. This particular piece appears to have been worn by the Československé Lidové Letectvo (CSLL) during that era.
CSLL = abbreviation for "Československé Lidové Letectvo."
An entirely unfamiliar specimen, at least to my eye. Likely positioned as a summer flight jacket variant.
The face fabric employs a twill-weave cotton, while the lining features HBT-weave cotton—a generous specification. The cuffs and hem are finished in ribbed knit, presumably wool-blend material.
The collar presents a refined detail: a strap with dual snap closures. The vertical pockets, positioned considerably high on the body, constitute another distinctive design element.
The overall design is minimal—lacking even hand-warmer pockets at the hem—yet these uncommon details throughout lend character to an otherwise restrained silhouette.
The collar is engineered with a chin strap and fitted at a height that repels wind and enhances insulation, allowing for a composed appearance even when raised.
The presence of a chin strap versus its absence marks an essential difference. When the collar is raised, the presence of that strap elevates the entire bearing entirely.
The front closure employs a zip fastener. The WICO brand slider has been fitted.
Inside, a stamped marking confirms both size designation and issue year. The stamp clearly reads "1957," confirming this piece was formally issued in that year.
Beyond its rarity, this is a genuinely handsome garment from a pure fashion perspective, and we encourage its actual wear.
Size marking is "2B"—roughly equivalent to a Japanese XL.
Measurements indicate a generous cut, accommodating larger frames without compromise. In the manner of military pieces, it carries its scale with composure.
The piece bears the marks of honest use—soiling, abrasion, loose threads, small punctures, tears, and repair traces—yet these traces allow the vintage character to emerge fully. We recommend wearing it as is, though restoration remains an option should damage concern you.
An unfamiliar specimen even to me—a rare and singular example from the Československé Lidové Letectvo. Decidedly esoteric, yet early-era Czechoslovak military pieces merit serious consideration.
This is not merchandise that mere expenditure will procure, nor is future availability assured.
Equally valid as wardrobe piece, collection object, or design reference. Seldom encountered domestically or abroad—a singular find for those actively seeking such rarity, or for those drawn to the unconventional.
