A pair of ARNYS PARIS in-tuck turn-up linen silk trousers, estimated from the early 2000s.
ARNYS PARIS was founded in 1933 when Giankel Grumbert, a Ukrainian-Jewish entrepreneur, established his atelier at 14 Rue de Sèvres on Paris's Left Bank.
Once described as "ARNYS on the Left Bank, Hermès on the Right Bank," it was the preeminent house of Paris's Left Bank. The Right Bank embodied aristocratic conservatism, while the Left Bank possessed a democratic, progressive, and artistic character.
ARNYS honoured French traditional tailoring and classical menswear while infusing them with a distinctly personal interpretation, establishing a characteristic style.
The house expressed a singular French elegance through refined design and the finest materials. While respecting the fundamental structure of classical business wear, ARNYS achieved a dramatic silhouette and refined proportions through subtle adjustments—pocket placement, jacket proportions, and the like.
Given that the house once stood alongside Hermès, every piece bore the mark of masterful construction. The commitment to craftsmanship was such that different items were produced by different workshops, each maintaining an exacting standard. One encounters only excellence across the ARNYS archive.
In 2012, ARNYS was acquired by the LVMH group and gradually disappeared. The trademark was later sold to Berluti, and the house no longer exists as an independent entity.
ARNYS occupied an important place in French menswear, known for its distinctive design and exceptional tailoring. Its closure marked the end of an era in Parisian fashion.
We present a pair of trousers from this legendary house, crafted from supple linen-silk in a generous construction featuring in-tuck detailing and turn-up hems.
The specification speaks for itself: in-tuck waistband construction, front button closure, zip fly, refined belt loops, tapered silhouette, a deeply set centre crease, and double-stitched turnups. These are the hallmarks of formal trousers executed with true discipline.
The waistband allows ease of movement while the leg gently tapers toward the hem—a silhouette that harmonises proportion as a musical instrument balances sound. This is calculated design in service of both comfort and beauty. The double finish at the hem becomes an understated accent of refinement, preserving an impeccable impression from every angle.
The fabric employs fine linen and silk, qualities that lend natural texture whilst offering a gentleness against the skin. The particular coolness and lightness inherent to linen-silk blends make these trousers an ideal choice for warmer seasons.
The colour is navy—a depth comparable to deep water, a versatile neutral that harmonises with any material or hue. Simple yet profound, it possesses the flexibility to complement any wardrobe whilst maintaining its own quiet authority. Introduced into lighter spring and summer compositions, such trousers will anchor an ensemble and elevate it with understated elegance.
Refined design, tailoring, fabric, and colour—a golden convergence that yields a piece worthy of the term "lifetime garment." For those seeking items that transcend trend and reward patient wearing, we recommend this unreservedly.
These trousers elevate the wearer's bearing, possess the flexibility to integrate into any wardrobe, whilst maintaining a distinct presence. We offer them with full confidence to those in pursuit of classic style that endures beyond time.
ARNYS trousers are often found in Italian manufacture, but this example is a rarer instance of French production—a distinction that will appeal to those who value France as provenance.
Marked size 44, equivalent to approximately Japanese size L. The actual measurements suggest a generous fit, accommodating larger frames without difficulty.
This is a near mint condition example, free from notable soiling or damage. There are no structural defects that would inhibit wear, and the piece remains in full working order.
ARNYS PARIS—a house now defunct and increasingly rare in any form—produced garments of extraordinary refinement in its day. We invite you to wear this piece, a remnant of the legendary maison that once shared stature with Hermès.
The house has experienced renewed attention in recent publications, and given that ARNYS no longer exists, demand will only intensify. Should you seek such a piece, we encourage you to act with appropriate haste.
