A French moss green hunting gilet and jodhpurs, estimated from the 1920s.
A truly exceptional arrival.
I must confess, this is the first piece of its kind I have encountered. Moss green is remarkably rare in workwear—military pieces, perhaps, but not workwear.
Upon closer inspection, the fabric reveals something unexpected. The weave is not solid moss green, but rather interwoven with blue and orange threads, creating a subtle striped effect.
The gilet's details are equally unusual—seven front buttons and a two-tiered pocket construction at the waist. A considered, refined design.
The buttons themselves bear the mark AU LOUVRE PARIS.
This suggests it was carried by Grands Magasins du Louvre, the legendary Paris department store founded in 1855.
I have never encountered a piece with this particular fabric character and detailing. It was likely commissioned by someone of considerable means.
A piece that deserves the term one-of-a-kind.
It is unlikely we shall see another.
The sizing runs generous, so even those of larger build will find it accommodating.
Both the gilet and jodhpurs feature cinch backs, allowing for minor adjustment.
There is visible wear throughout, yet for its age, the fact that it survives in wearable condition feels almost miraculous.
There are no significant flaws that would prevent wear; the piece still has life ahead of it.
This is not the sort of thing one simply purchases. Nor can we guarantee its replacement.
Should you have been searching for something of this rarity, this may be the moment.
