Silver 835 refers to the silver content by weight: 83.5% pure silver. This hallmark is especially common on vintage German pieces.
Silver, in its pure form, is too soft for jewellery. Stronger metals—primarily copper—are alloyed with silver to create pieces durable enough for daily wear.
Silver 835 is harder and more durable than Silver 925, allowing for finer detailing and more intricate craftsmanship.
In Germany, Silver 800 is considered the equivalent of fine silver.
