Barbour was established in 1894 in South Shields, in the northeast of England. An outdoor lifestyle brand born from British pragmatism.
Today, it releases pieces for urban wear, yet its origins lie in workwear—providing durable oilcloth to dock workers, sailors, and fishermen. That foundation has never left the house.
The fact that Barbour holds a Royal Warrant—a distinction notoriously difficult to obtain—speaks to the calibre of its craftsmanship. There is little need to elaborate further.
Royal Warrants are granted only by three parties: Her Majesty The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, and The Prince of Wales. Only warrant holders may display the Royal Arms. These credentials are scrutinised and renewed every five years—a stringent process where even established brands can lose standing. Barbour has maintained three warrants continuously. Formidable, indeed.
