Estimated 1930s French Army M35 Linen Motorcycle Pants.
A special acquisition.
Arrived as deadstock, unwashed and complete with flashsher.
Worn by the French Army motorcycle corps. Constructed from a dense linen canvas that resists wind penetration.
The later M38 variant features an apron-style front construction. The earlier M35, by contrast, forgoes the apron front in favour of hook closures and button fly—as seen here.
This example exhibits the non-apron front construction, confirming its position as an early-pattern M35.
Whilst most examples were produced in cotton or cotton-linen blends, this piece represents something far scarcer: pure linen construction throughout.
The fabric possesses considerable weight, yet retains the characteristic fluidity and subtle movement inherent to French linen. Vintage French linen particularly commands regard in the collector's market—a material now considered impossible to faithfully reproduce.
Patch pockets grace the front, sufficient for modest effects. Designed originally as an over-trousers garment worn atop other clothing, the side pockets remain thru-cut to allow access to underlying layers.
All buttons are original wood examples from the period.
The silhouette falls decisively straight and generously wide—quintessentially military in bearing. An adjuster belt at the hem permits a more tapered impression when drawn, lending unexpected refinement to the cut.
Produced originally as an over-garment, sizing runs large throughout the piece. The waist accommodates adjustment via the included belt, permitting comfortable wear even for slighter frames. When assessing fit, reference the inseam length rather than waist measurement.
The condition, being deadstock, is exemplary—recommended for those seeking an unmarred example.
All-linen motorcycle trousers arrive infrequently across a calendar year. Deadstock status with flashsher renders this example exceptionally scarce.
A masterwork worthy of its designation as a French Army special issue. Those in pursuit should regard this opportunity carefully.
