Circa 1940s, French Military TAP47 paratrooper jacket.
An exceptional acquisition for our inventory.
Sourced in deadstock condition.
A piece we have long sought to represent—among the finest examples produced for French Military airborne operations.
Few survive in this iteration; most collectors encounter them rarely, if at all.
The parachute jacket first issued to French Military paratroopers in 1947.
Known as the TAP47, its construction details and camouflage patterns evolved progressively across production years.
Two variants exist: olive and camouflaged. The olive version, such as this example, was produced in far smaller quantities and commands significantly greater rarity.
Within the olive category, early examples represent the highest echelon of scarcity among French Military pieces. Collectors pursue them with intensity, and surviving specimens command substantial market values.
The more commonly encountered TAP47/56 employs HBT woven cotton. This early example, by contrast, utilizes the coarser cotton twill characteristic of the M47 early period.
Distinguishing details of the first issue (TAP47): oversized flap pockets anchored with metal buttons, positioned one each at side seams; diagonal flap pockets at the hem; a notably elevated collar; beaver tail reinforcement across the back yoke; adjustable belts at cuff and hem—elements entirely absent in subsequent generations.
The TAP47/56 refined these proportions: diagonal hem pockets evolved to straight configurations, collar height diminished substantially, and the rear beaver tail was eliminated entirely. Each successive iteration toward simplification marked a deliberate departure from the original design vocabulary.
For those who value these accumulated technical flourishes, we recommend seeking either the first issue or second model.
The proportions run generous throughout, accommodating larger frames without compromise.
Wearing it with ease and volume suits the design entirely.
Deadstock condition presents without concession—recommended for those seeking an example in pristine state.
This is not a commodity available to those with ready capital. Future acquisition remains uncertain.
Valuable equally as functional wardrobe, collection centerpiece, and design reference.
An early parachute jacket worthy of French Military's standing.
That deadstock condition should arrive again—if at all—remains improbable.
Consider this a singular opportunity for those who seek such rarities.
Scarcity and condition converge here without compromise. Should you be searching, this moment warrants your attention.
