Czechoslovak People's Army 'Clouds Camouflage Reversible Trousers', estimated from the 1950s.
A truly exceptional acquisition.
Today divided into the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic as separate nations, the territory existed as the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic from 1918 to 1992—or the Czechoslovak Republic from 1918 to 1960.
This particular pair was worn by the Czechoslovak People's Army (CSLA) during that era.
CSLA = Československá Lidová Armáda.
A striking piece defined by an unmistakable camouflage pattern—the "Clouds Camouflage" distinctive to the Czechoslovak People's Army.
First adopted in the 1950s, this camouflage pattern was designated as the official spotted summer combat uniform.
Uniforms bearing this pattern saw service from the 1950s through the 1970s among the Czechoslovak 22nd Airborne Brigade, rifle infantry, and reconnaissance units.
Though adopted for roughly two decades, official production ceased in 1962.
Exceptionally rare in reversible form, with distinct camouflage tones on each side.
One side features pale green grounds with clouds rendered in dark and light olive; the reverse presents greyish-tan with clouds in brown and bright olive green—a single garment offering two palettes. A luxury of choice.
The green side was intended for wear in spring; the grey side for autumn.
We encourage alternating use according to the season and mood.
Among camouflage patterns, the Clouds variant commands exceptional rarity.
Given how few survive domestically and internationally, many encountering this piece will be seeing it for the first time.
We suspect only a handful circulate within Japan.
Originally, the waist and hem featured drawcord closures; this example has been modified by a previous owner on both fronts.
The waist employs elastic shirring, with slightly lowered flap patch pockets at the hips—minimal detailing by necessity.
Hand warmer pockets are absent, making the piece functionally spare rather than convenient; this contributes to its minimal aesthetic.
The hem, originally drawcord as well, has been finished cleanly on this example.
Constructed from lightweight cotton, these trousers move freely and wear comfortably without restriction—ideally suited to daily wear.
Beyond its rarity, from a fashion perspective alone, this is an exceptionally handsome piece. We encourage wearing it without reserve.
No size marking is visible, but we estimate it corresponds to Japanese size L.
Measurements indicate a generous fit, accommodating larger frames comfortably.
Built originally as overtrousers worn over service dress, all examples tend toward ample proportions.
Elastic shirring at the waist allows extension to approximately 98cm, offering a range of wearers a proper fit.
Soiling, repair marks, and modifications are present; however, no significant damage impedes wear. This piece remains entirely wearable.
Cotton of this caliber typically shows marked fading with age and use, and its thinness invites visible tears. Many examples bear these signs.
This example, however, exhibits minimal fading and remains in notably fine condition—a rarity difficult to encounter.
Possessing the Clouds Camouflage—a pattern of special significance—
this singular piece grants access to two distinct visual vocabularies, to be deployed through styling according to season and purpose.
This is not the sort of object one acquires simply by spending money, nor can we assure future availability.
Equally at home as wardrobe staple, collection piece, or design reference, this garment offers substantial merit on all counts.
A piece rarely encountered anywhere in the world. Those seeking this pattern or drawn to scarce items would be wise not to pass.
