A rare arrival in deadstock condition.
A single piece believed to have been worn by French Army alpine troops of the period. Upon first encounter with this type of smock, I suspect it to be one of the garments referred to as an "alpine smock."
When one mentions a French Army alpine smock, most would envision a piece with an olive-colored body and a flap-pocket configuration of four pockets.
This particular example, however, features an ecru-colored body with substantial flap pockets positioned only at the center—a notably austere construction that sets it distinctly apart from the olive-colored variants.
The off-white coloration suggests possible intention for snow-mountain wear, yet the lightweight cotton-linen blend fabric lacks the absolute insulation such conditions would demand.
The front pockets and sleeve cuff tabs are fitted with milk glass buttons.
