A SERAPHIN deerskin leather blouson, estimated from the 1980s.
A special acquisition.
SERAPHIN is a leather specialist factory brand founded in 1975 by Henri-Georges Zaks in Paris, France.
It operates from a historic workshop on Quai de Valmy in France, a street that once housed leather tanners and craftsmen during the Napoleonic era, employing traditional artisanal techniques.
Today, all production takes place along the Canal St. Martin in Paris, where 74 artisans work in a traditional leather workshop. Approximately 70% of production is dedicated to their own brand, with the remainder serving third-party clients.
SERAPHIN is distinguished by meticulous French craftsmanship and a reputation for finishing diverse materials of the highest quality.
Its quality is so highly regarded that HERMES, the pinnacle of maisons, entrusts SERAPHIN with the production of their entire leather wear line—a testament to the caliber of work produced here.
We present here a blouson crafted from exceptional deerskin.
A French-made piece refined with uncompromising attention to detail.
Executed through traditional pattern-making and hand-stitching, and dressed in leather of the highest order, this is a garment of considerable distinction.
Remarkably spare in its detailing, this piece lets the quality of the leather speak for itself.
It carries an air of understated authority—worlds apart from other labels.
While it echoes the masculine spirit of the American naval classic, the G-1 Flight Jacket, the exceptional quality of the leather here tilts the balance decisively toward refinement.
This is an elegant leather blouson—the kind that befits a discerning wardrobe.
It inherits the functional language of military design: a wind flap at the front closure, generous flapped pockets, vertical hand-warming pockets, and action pleats across the back.
The front fastens with a full-length zip slider.
The slider itself is riri brand—the choice of the finest makers.
A chin strap is included, anticipating the moment when one stands the collar high—a detail worth noting.
The presence or absence of a chin strap makes an extraordinary difference.
The feeling and character when worn with the collar raised is simply incomparable.
The fabric is deerskin—a luxury here deployed without compromise.
Deerskin, derived from doe, is a leather remarkable for its lightness, durability, and breathability. Among all deer hides, doe leather is prized for its suppleness and tactile softness, earning the epithet "the cashmere of leather."
It possesses a lightness and softness that belie its material nature, delivering an exceptionally airy and effortless wearing experience.
Many are hesitant about leather garments for the rigidity they can impose, but this concern does not apply here.
The lining is a wool and cashmere blend, providing exceptional warmth.
For those seeking an unadorned, heirloom-quality leather piece, this is it.
Marked as size 50
In Japanese sizing, this corresponds approximately to L to XL.
The garment runs large across all dimensions, so those of considerable frame will find it accommodating.
It suits both a precise fit and a relaxed silhouette.
There is evidence of use—minor soiling and the patina of time—but no damage that compromises wearability. It remains entirely serviceable.
SERAPHIN, the leather factory recognised even by HERMES, creates the kind of quality befitting a lifetime garment.
