The brand holds the distinction of having developed the world's first reversible coat—a revolutionary technique of its era.
The name Invertere derives from Latin, meaning "to turn about," embodying the essence of its signature reversible design.
While Invertere gained recognition for reversible coats, the duffle coat remains its truest expression.
The cloth employed in this piece is 100% wool from Moorbrook, a weaver situated in the English countryside.
Moorbrook was custodian of four of the world's remaining looms—a rarity that speaks to an uncompromising approach to production.
The cloth these looms produced demanded patience. Efficiency was sacrificed for substance: a dense, yielding wool with inherent warmth and surprising lightness in the herringbone weave.
Hermes, a house equally devoted to quality, sourced exclusively from Moorbrook.
As Moorbrook shifted from cloth production toward finished goods, they acquired Invertere. From this union came the duffle coat before you.
Yet Moorbrook's expertise lay in winter cloth. Summer weights eluded them.
Economic pressure followed. Moorbrook ceased operations, and Invertere with it, fading from view.
Invertere returned in 2013, but duffle coats woven from Moorbrook cloth exist only from the 1990s and prior.
