A INVERTERE wool duffle coat, estimated from the 1990s.
A special arrival.
INVERTERE is a long-established coat house founded in England in 1904.
It holds the distinction of developing the world's first reversible coat, a technique that was revolutionary at the time.
The name INVERTERE derives from Latin, meaning "to turn around," embodying the spirit of its signature reversible coat.
While INVERTERE is renowned for its reversible coats, it is perhaps most celebrated for its duffle coats.
This example features 100% wool cloth from Moorbrook, a mill situated in the English countryside.
Moorbrook once possessed four of only four such looms in existence worldwide.
Cloth produced on these looms demands inefficient production methods, yet yields a substantial, soft, warm, and remarkably lightweight herringbone weave.
HERMES, a house known for its uncompromising standards, used exclusively Moorbrook cloth.
In time, Moorbrook transitioned from cloth production to finished garments, acquiring INVERTERE. From this union came the duffle coat before us.
Yet Moorbrook's strength lay in winter cloths; summer fabrics were not their domain.
The economic downturn that followed saw Moorbrook cease operations, and with it, {{GLOSSERY:INVERTERE}} disappeared.
INVERTERE was revived in 2013, but duffle coats made with Moorbrook cloth exist only from specimens dating to the 1990s and earlier.
These are said to have a lighter, airier hand than the contemporary Joshua Ellis iteration.
For those who value authenticity, an example of INVERTERE from its original era merits serious consideration.
Charcoal grey—a colour sought by many, though seldom encountered.
While grey is considered a standard palette, examples in this shade appear infrequently in the market.
The Moorbrook cloth, woven in herringbone, presents a deeply textured surface of undeniable refinement.
The colour amplifies this restraint further.
The proportions align well with the Japanese silhouette, suited to a broad range of frames.
We recommend wearing it at true size, with understated elegance.
The condition is exceptional—free from notable marks or wear—making it a worthy choice for those seeking a piece in pristine state. The wool retains its characteristic resilience and body.
There are no significant damages that would compromise wear, and the coat remains fully serviceable.
A duffle coat worthy of the designation "lifetime garment"—among the finest ever made.
To speak of the duffle coat without INVERTERE is to speak incompletely. This is that coat.
A piece of INVERTERE from its original period is exceptionally rare on the market. A masterwork among masterworks.
Those in search should seize this opportunity.
