A wool duffle coat by {{INVERTERE}}, estimated from the 1990s.
A special acquisition.
{{INVERTERE}} is a heritage coat brand founded in England in 1904.
The house holds the distinction of developing the world's first reversible coat—a remarkable innovation for its time.
The name itself derives from Latin, meaning 'to turn around,' a direct reference to its signature reversible construction.
While {{INVERTERE}} is celebrated for its reversible coats, the duffle remains perhaps its most iconic silhouette.
This example is constructed from 100% wool cloth by {{Moorbrook}}, a fabric mill situated in the English countryside.
{{Moorbrook}} once possessed only four of these particular looms remaining in the world.
Cloth from these looms demands patience—production is inefficient by modern standards—yet capable of yielding a fabric of substantial weight, softness, warmth, and a lightweight herringbone weave.
{{HERMES}}, a house renowned for its uncompromising standards, chose {{Moorbrook}} exclusively for its cloth.
When {{Moorbrook}} resolved to move beyond fabric production into finished goods, the company acquired {{INVERTERE}}, resulting in this particular duffle coat.
However, {{Moorbrook}}'s expertise lay primarily in winter cloths; summer weaves were not its strength.
Economic hardship followed, and {{Moorbrook}} eventually ceased operations, taking {{INVERTERE}} with it.
{{INVERTERE}} returned in 2013, yet duffle coats made with {{Moorbrook}} cloth exist only in examples from the 1990s and earlier.
These pieces are said to possess a lighter, airier hand compared to the current {{Joshua Ellis}} production.
For those who value authenticity, an original {{INVERTERE}} from its working years remains the definitive choice.
Camel—the classic duffle colour, sought by many.
Though such tonality risks appearing juvenile in less capable hands, the textured depth of {{Moorbrook}}'s herringbone cloth imparts an understated refinement. The inherent dignity of the material dissolves any concern.
The proportions align exceptionally well with the Japanese frame, accommodating a broad range of builds.
This is a piece to be worn, precisely fitted, with a mature sensibility.
Signs of wear are present—light surface marks—yet the wool remains in excellent condition, soft and full.
No significant damage impedes wearing, and this coat will serve reliably for years to come.
A duffle coat worthy of the phrase 'a lifetime's companion'—among the finest ever made.
To discuss the duffle without reference to {{INVERTERE}} would be incomplete. This is such a coat.
Original {{INVERTERE}} pieces of this age rarely appear. A masterwork among masterworks.
Should you seek one, this opportunity warrants consideration.
