A Duffle coat in wool, INVERTERE manufacture, circa 1990s.
A special arrival.
INVERTERE is a heritage coat house founded in the United Kingdom in 1904.
The brand pioneered the reversible coat—a revolutionary technology of its time.
INVERTERE, from the Latin meaning 'to turn about,' names the house by its most distinctive creation.
While INVERTERE gained recognition for reversible coats, the duffle coat remains its truest statement.
This piece is woven from Moorbrook, 100% wool cloth.
Moorbrook, a mill situated in rural England, once possessed one of only four mechanical looms of its kind remaining in the world.
From these looms emerged fabric of remarkable substance—substantial, yielding, warm, and remarkably light in its herringbone weave, though at the cost of slower production.
HERMES, the house renowned for its uncompromising standards, sourced exclusively from Moorbrook.
When Moorbrook later shifted from manufacturing cloth alone to finished goods, the acquisition of INVERTERE followed. This duffle coat was born of that union.
Yet Moorbrook had specialized in winter-weight cloth, lacking the technical capacity for lighter seasons.
Economic hardship led to the mill's closure, and INVERTERE with it disappeared from view.
INVERTERE was revived in 2013, but duffle coats woven from Moorbrook cloth exist only in examples from the 1990s and earlier.
For those who value authenticity, the original INVERTERE warrants consideration.
This is a rarity among INVERTERE pieces—bearing the old tag of the 1990s era, distinct from its modern successor.
Many search specifically for this tag.
More still, a special commission—unusually rare for INVERTERE.
The commissioning party remains unidentified, yet the coat carries a double name: DE PAZ.
A sought-after piece in this deep brown—the colour of strong coffee—a shade that accords with sophisticated, mature dressing.
The appeal of this particular tone has made it the object of many searches.
Most INVERTERE duffles run generous in proportion. This example is notably smaller, a golden ratio suited to Japanese frames.
It accommodates a wide range of physiques.
To wear it at proper scale, allowing its maturity to fully manifest, is the intention.
The piece shows gentle wear throughout, yet the wool remains in sound condition—lofted and resilient.
There are no significant defects that impede wear, and it remains fully serviceable.
A duffle coat of the highest order, one that honors the promise of a lifetime garment.
To speak of the duffle without INVERTERE is to speak incompletely. Such is this coat.
Rarely does original INVERTERE reach market. A masterwork among masterworks.
Should you seek such a piece, this moment warrants attention.
