An estimated 1950s French Army 'Motorcycle Leather Jacket'.
A special arrival.
As the name suggests, a "Motorcycle Leather Jacket" issued to the French Army Land Forces motorcyclist units.
When it comes to motorcycles in the French Army, models such as the "M-35" and "M-38" are widely recognised.
However, this particular example is exceptionally rare among motorcyclist unit items, and given the scarcity of surviving examples, we suspect it may have been issued to a specific unit or individual.
This piece features buttons arranged in two columns—a so-called "double-breasted" specification, a rare detail.
The double-breasted silhouette certainly carries more visual presence than the single-breasted variant.
Without the epaulettes that many find cumbersome, it avoids any costume-like quality, making it remarkably suited to contemporary styling and everyday wear.
The lining features herringbone twill cotton, while the sleeves are lined with smooth sateen for ease of movement.
The stamp inside—characteristic of French Army original items—remains clearly visible and is worth noting. The depth of the stamping suggests the jacket has been worn with care over the years.
Notably rare for a leather jacket, the sleeves employ a "raglan" construction.
The leather, already supple, accommodates the wearer's shoulders without restriction, allowing for a clean silhouette that avoids rigidity.
The fabric is almost certainly made from Cowhide.
Cowhide—leather from mature female cattle with breeding experience—is sourced from animals at least two years old.
The leather is inherently thick with excellent durability and strength. With wear, it develops lustre and gradually becomes softer and more supple.
Many hesitate at stiff leather, but such concerns are unfounded here.
The leather has already softened considerably, conforming closely to the body. The ease of wear is exceptional.
Beyond its rarity, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, this is a remarkably handsome piece. We encourage you to wear it without reservation.
Tagged size "B2"
Equivalent to a Japanese M to L.
The actual measurements suggest a golden size for the Japanese frame, accommodating a wide range of builds.
It works equally well worn fitted or oversized.
There is evidence of age—colour variation, soiling, wear marks inherent to the leather, scuffing, and minor button loss—but no substantial damage that would impair wearability.
Among French Army items, the "Motorcycle Leather Jacket" is particularly uncommon in the market.
Its scarcity means many encounter it for the first time here.
Worthy as an essential wardrobe piece or a serious collection item.
Rarely seen domestically, this is a specimen worth pursuing. If you have been searching for such a piece, or if you appreciate the rare and unusual, we would encourage you not to overlook this opportunity.
